Knights of Columbus

The Knights of Columbus Council at St. Mary Parish is active and faithful to the order’s founding principles of Charity, Unity, and Fraternity. We serve our Parish, church, community, and families. Council 1767 of Mount Angel was chartered in 1914 and had over 170 members. We want and need new men to join our fraternity so we can continue doing the good things that we do!

The Knights support the seminarians at Mount Angel Abbey, help fund and provide manpower for parish needs, support the pro-life cause, conduct a National Free-Throw contest, sponsor a Little League Baseball team each spring, and support families in our community that are in need. Fundraising events include our Parish Pancake Breakfasts and cleaning the venues at Oktoberfest. We enjoy family events like hiking trips, bowling, and pizza get-togethers.

The Knights build fraternity by working together and having fun together!

The only requirements for membership are that you are a practicing Catholic (18 years of age and older), and that you keep your dues current. Council dues are $25 a year. There are monthly meetings, service projects, and activities, but you are not required to do anything your schedule may not allow. Council business meetings are held once a month on the third Tuesday (7 PM) at the American Legion Hall in Mount Angel. Meetings are followed by a short time of food and fellowship. History of the Knights of Columbus: Thanks to the efforts of Father Michael J. McGivney, assistant pastor of St. Mary’s Church in New Haven, and some of his parishioners, the Connecticut state legislature on March 29,

1882, officially chartered the Knights of Columbus as a fraternal benefit society. The Order is still true to its founding principles of charity, unity, and fraternity.

The Knights of Columbus was formed to render financial aid to members and their families. Mutual assistance is offered to sick, disabled, and needy members and their families. Social and intellectual fellowship is promoted among members and their families through educational, charitable, religious, social welfare, war relief, and public relief.

The history of the Order shows how the foresight of Father Michael J. McGivney, whose cause for sainthood is being investigated by the Vatican, brought about what has become the world’s foremost Catholic fraternal benefit society. The Order has helped families obtain economic security and stability through its life insurance, annuity, and long-term care programs. It has contributed time and energy worldwide to service communities.

The Knights of Columbus has grown from several members in one council to more than 15,900 councils and 1.9 million members throughout the United States, Canada, the Philippines, Mexico, Poland, the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Panama, the Bahamas, the Virgin Islands, Cuba, Guatemala, Guam, Saipan, Lithuania, Ukraine, and South Korea!

The Knights are always looking for NEW members! Every practicing Catholic man should be a member of the Knights of Columbus! Together we can do for the Church what you can’t do alone. Please join us and put your Faith in ACTION.
